The term is often used in connection with Smartphones and mobile payments. Well-known discounters are already introducing these payment methods.
This is possible because NFC is integrated in the majority of new Smartphones. This is a radio standard similar to Bluetooth, but the data transfer rate is slower. However, it is a good alternative for exchanging smaller quantities of data such as a calendar entry or an address book contact.
The special thing about NFC is that transmission is only possible if there the devices are a few centimetres apart.
This is an advantage with regard to the product and protection of the brand, since a person must be in close proximity in order to read out and copy personal information. This makes this procedure significantly more secure than Bluetooth, for example.
Where is it used? Many solutions have already been realised, e.g. cashless payment and in the event area as a “digital ticket”.
